BEING MENTORS

We are challenged to also be mentors to others searching and to help them experience a new chapter in their lives with God.

Deacon John Ruscheinsky

From the perspective of the book of Acts of the Apostles, Priscilla and Aquila are a picture of God's spirit at work. Acts says Apollos knew only the baptism of John and not, apparently, of the Spirit. When Acts tells the story of Pentecost, the Old Testament prophet Joel is quoted as looking for that day when the Holy Spirit would be poured out on all God's children, when they would prophesy. There is a great scene in this reading when Apollos, newly instructed faith, is taken under the wings of Priscilla and Aquila to mentor him in his faith and work.  They followed the example of the true teacher, Jesus who often taught in ways of illustration or parable. Here He speaks not in "figures," but in plain speech. Jesus Christ revealed to His followers and others the hidden treasure of the heavenly kingdom and He taught them how to pray to the Father in His name. Jesus opens the heart and speaks in the plainest of language: "The Father Himself loves you!"

Points to Pray and Ponder: We are challenged to also be mentors to others searching and to help them experience a new chapter in their lives with God. What experience and encouragement can we gift them with? And what might you and I gain in return? For God is king of all the earth (Ps 47).  Let Us Be Mentors!
