FAITH WITH VIRTUE

Though the tenants take advantage of the owner's patience, His justice prevails in the end.

Deacon John Ruscheinsky

The parable in Mark's Gospel speaks to us as well today: it richly coveys some important truths about the way our heavenly Father deals with us His children. Firstly, it tells us of God's generosity and trust. The vineyard is well equipped with everything the tenants need. The owner went away and left the vineyard in the hands of the tenants. God likewise trusts us enough to give us freedom to manage our lives as we choose. Secondly, this parable also tells us of God's patience and justice. Not once, but many times He forgives the tenants their debts. Though the tenants take advantage of the owner's patience, His justice prevails in the end.

In the responsorial Psalm we acclaim: In You, my God, I place my trust (Ps 91). By a promise we who place our trust in our heavenly Father and who seek the grace and peace that flows from knowing Jesus hope that we "may come to entry into the eternal kingdom [that] our Lord and savior Jesus Christ . . . richly provided for you." (2 PT 1:11). This puts us on a solid foundation in our faith, which can bring you and me great joy!

Points to Pray and Ponder: The process is clear, virtue with knowledge, knowledge with self- control, self control with endurance, endurance with devotion, devotion with mutual affection, and mutual affection with love.
