SHED SOME LIGHT

It is in giving that we receive, that giving of all or anything we have is its own reward.
Deacon John Ruscheinsky
A lamp is purchased in order to shed some light, to illuminate the darkness-not to be hidden away in the attic or covered with a drape. The light we have to give to the world, each in our own way, should be used, spread generously. The enlightenment that our faith and trust in God gives us Christians is something many around us lack at times. Our hope and the accompanying joy should be used to brighten other lives. In Mark's Gospel, the second parable stresses that it is in giving that we receive, that giving of all or anything we have is its own reward.
Giving of self - in service, care, consolation, sympathy, encouragement, and so on - is, in many ways, the most perfect way in which we imitate the self-giving of Jesus Christ and carry out in daily life our offering of ourselves with the help of prayer, scripture, and worship.
In the Gospel Acclamation we proclaimed a lamp to my feet is Your word, a light to my path. We read in the scriptures today - anyone who has ears to hear ought to hear." Jesus also told them, "Take care what you hear." So our natural light may shine!
Points to Pray and Ponder: Ask the Lord that we grow in wisdom by His teaching, and holiness by imitating His faith." May God's love and light be reflected in and through our lives.
