SENT ON A MISSION
There is another important lesson in this story, namely Jesus is interested and will help in the work of His followers, us.
Deacon John Ruscheinsky

Today we read that Jesus came to the help of several of the Apostles. They made their living by the rough and exhausting labor of fishing. They were catching nothing. Jesus told them to throw out their nets again. Miraculously, they caught so many fish that their two boats were sinking. Jesus wanted to show them that they were to catch men as they caught fish, but there is another important lesson in this story, namely Jesus is interested and will help in the work of His followers, us. He is ready and willing to help everyone who works hard.

Points to Pray and Ponder: What St. Paul boasts in today's second reading, Christ could also say of himself. "I have worked harder than all the others." In the words of our Responsorial Psalm we acclaim boldly the following. "When I called, you answered me; you built up strength within me." Dorothy Day wrote the following. "If I did not believe... that the works of mercy do lighten the sum total of suffering in the world, the problem of evil would indeed be overwhelming" (On Pilgrimage). We are sent on a Mission!
