THE GREATEST GIFT

Jesus offers us safety in the face of threats… not hair of your head will perish.

Deacon John Ruscheinsky

Today in the Gospel we read about when certain signs begin to happen, we should stand erect and raise our heads because our redemption is at hand. Spiritual blindness can keep us from recognizing the obvious signs approaching us of hurt, anger, and even darkness. This can bring disaster in our lives if we refuse to heed God's word.  Grace and salvation is available for everyone of us, but we must receive it. Jesus was completely honest when He told the disciples what it would cost to follow Him. Jesus promised that he would never leave them or us alone, even in time of tribulation. The saints and martyrs who underwent torment and death made their prisons a temple of praise and their scaffolds a throne to the glory of God.

So many good souls knew the saving presence of Christ Jesus with them in all circumstances. Jesus offers us safety in the face of threats… not hair of your head will perish.

Today we also celebrate in the United States Thanksgiving Day. A time to give thanks for all God gives us in our Nation and our lives. We would like to think that our nation is deeply aware of its "gifted" status. This is indeed the perfect day to give due thanks to the Creator for the riches of natural resources, our history, and the brilliance of human achievements that have made us a great nation under God. But by far the greatest gift in our lives and one which no one can take from us is our redemption through the precious blood of Jesus. This He shed on the cross, to bring about our adoption through Christ as children of God our Father.

Points to Pray and Ponder:  Sing joyfully and serve the Lord. Come before Him with open hearts. Yes, we have many reasons to be thankful!
